Client: Public Dreams Society
Parade of Lost Souls (Public Dreams Society) has rolled out one of East Vancouver’s favorite and most celebrated events for over 15 years. In 2010 it was time for a new vision. Funding was low, crowd turn-outs enormous, and resources strapped. In only a few months we rolled out a community engagement plan by selecting a secret parade route, knocking on over 180 doors and inviting neighbours to open their yards, garages, gardens and streets to a host of volunteers, performers and revelers.
The vision was bold, but the plan successful. In both 2010 and 2011 the streets and alleyways were opened to 12,000 costumed participants who took in shadow plays, soundscapes, giant mechanical beasts, puppets and public spaces completely transformed by a small crew of dedicated artists and volunteers. What we bring to events like this is an ability to identify and maximize on resources, build and manage teams, dig into our networks, and facilitate the safest, craziest dream into a public space reality.
